This Bloody Crime Saved Our Lives: The Dark History

This Bloody Crime Saved Our Lives: The Dark History

Hi friends, comfortable Thursday!

Welcome to the Dark History podcast. Today we’re diving in to a subject personal to me – my mom was a 911 dispatcher once I was growing up. And this experience at all times made me wonder… what happened before 911 existed? I did some digging, and it turns it involves the Titanic sinking, a lady named Kitty in Queens, and the modern-day Karen.

I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

I did crank call 911 when I was a kid. I learned my lesson to never do that again because although I hung up the phone, the police actually did come to my house.

And here comes the race baiting.. 🙄 There are unfortunately reasons black Americans are shot more often. More resistance to arrest, highest violent crime stats, etc.

When it comes to calling 911 so many times, I completely understand where they are coming from, I had a neighbor I lived next to for almost two years, and the lady was mentally unstable to live on her on in the first place, she would call the police every other day sometimes everyday, for non-emergency things, so the police department told our landlord that if she kept calling that she would be kicked out and the landlord would have to pay a fine if she called again. It was really annoying that the landlord wouldn't do anything about it, and that was my first apartment.

i want to thank the wonman who answered the 911 call when I was involved in an accident when I was a teenager. I could not feel my legs and was crying over the phone with her. She was an angel and talking with me with a soothing voice and told me everything would be ok. I ended up regaining feeling and was ok. Shoutout to that angel!

I learned about Kitty and 911 in my Social Psychology class about the bystander effect. It's such a sad story. Thanks for covering this history and I did a day with the 911 center for my CJ class and I have so much for appreciation for them. I also used to work as a deaf and hard if hearing relay operator. Loved the job but way underpaid.

Imagine thinking your country was a safe place to be in in the first place after all the atrocities committed…. and to overnight, you realize how unhinged humanity really is at all times 😭

When my ex came to shoot our 4yr old son and me, 911 kept me calm while waiting for the police. I was trying to keep our son out of the way and she helped me remain level headed. I will never forget how amazing she was

I used the no service 911 on a mountain because I got over heated. That’s a great program. The rangers were right there quick.

Girl! Glad that law didn’t exist during DAHMER! You know how many times his lady neighbor tried to call the cops on him but they wouldn’t listen?

It's weird to me that 911 doesn't include ambulance – I'm from the UK, 999 is emergencies, 101, 111 and 105 (I think) are for non emergency police, nhs and fire (the only one I'm not sure about).

The whole screaming thing, it was drilled into us that we did not ever scream unless there was a genuine emergency and if it was an accident you have to loudly announce "I'm okay!" LOL

I have been a dispatcher for 5 years. It is my calling. If my voice can help someone it’s a blessing. But you are correct I have a second job to make ends meet.

In England we do have a 111 option, we have 999 for urgent emergencies and 111 for non emergency or advice example if your child is a little under the weather and you are unsure what sickness they have you would call 111 and they would advise you on what it could be and if u need to seek further medical attention. If it was serious they 111 caller would tell u to go to the nearest hospital and in my experience have notified the hospital of your arrival so you are seen as soon as possible
