Body horror in The SubstanceGallery / 19 images In Sarah Wang’s debut novel New Skin, a Chinese immigrant mother in Los Angeles spends her benefit payments on backstreet cosmetic procedures. When things go catastrophically awry, her daughter discovers that some of the substances being illegally injected into faces would be more at home on building sites.  Wang, who researched the novel partly through immersion in the American reality show Botched, which documents cosmetic surgery disasters, found the truth required little embellishment. She describes women who woke from surgery to find procedures had been performed on them without consent. Gwyneth Paltrow Launches Goop Mascara Aiming to Improve Lash

Gwyneth Paltrow Launches Goop Mascara Aiming to Improve Lash
With Goop’s beauty sales up 40 percent in 2023, Gwyneth Paltrow is trying to stir up growth with its first-ever mascara. FeatherLash Lifting Serum Mascara, $28, will launch Sunday and turn out to be the fourth pillar in Goop’s color cosmetics business, joining Colorblur Glow Balm, Clean Nourishing Lip Balm and Bronzing Gel. As with the opposite products, it’s a highly personal launch, one borne out of her own routine. “Mascara is the one thing I’m doing if I’m going out, unless a makeup artist is doing my makeup,” said Paltrow during a recent Zoom interview, concurrently preparing a one-pot roast chicken for that evening’s dinner. “I’m very minimal, and mascara makes an enormous difference. Gwyneth Paltrow Gets Personal on the L.A. In Goop
Goop held an intimate summit in Los Angeles on Saturday. At its inaugural event back in 2017, there have been 600 Goop-devotees gathered at a 30,000-square-foot reconstructed warehouse. This 12 months, Gwyneth Paltrow invited guests right into a much smaller and private space, the Goop headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., capping attendance at 139. “Joyful to reply any questions,” Paltrow said at her first appearance of the day during an “Ask Me Anything” Q&A session. The audience — predominantly white women who appear to feel or seek a reference to Paltrow — asked her about her personal life because it pertains to them. They asked about pivoting careers, on life post-“conscious uncoupling” and advice on the faculty application process.   “I’ve just been...

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Goals for the Masses With Lower-priced
Gwyneth Paltrow is bringing accessibility to Goop. The founder has launched a mass market beauty and wellness brand called Good.clean.goop, available in Goal stores, at goal.com and on Amazon on Sunday. “Years ago, when my team and I began our own Goop Beauty line, we committed ourselves to creating products that were three things concurrently: clean, high-performance and opulent,” said Paltrow, Goop’s chief executive officer and founder, in a press release. “Today, Goop Beauty is defined by best-in-class, clinically proven ingredients used at energetic levels, and the best way that every part feels exquisite. We’ve learned so much along the best way as we’ve built Goop Beauty, and now we’re thrilled to give you the chance to launch a recent brand...
