Garment District Committee Discusses .5M Zone Revitalization
The Garment District local planning committee met Wednesday morning for the primary in a series of meetings slated under the state’s district revival initiative. In February, Recent York Governor Kathy Hochul granted the storied garment zone $4.5 million through the state’s NY Forward program for neighborhood revitalization. In all, the NY Forward program mobilizes $100 million to support equitable recovery, following the COVID-19 pandemic, mirroring that of a previous successful initiative called Downtown Revitalization. The Garment District, per local nonprofit Garment District Alliance’s formal definition, encompasses 24 blocks, 6,500 businesses, 75,000 employees and is visually denoted by a colossal yellow button statue, balanced on a 28-foot-high needle on Seventh Avenue at thirty ninth Street. FLOWER POWER: One other 12 months, one other plant. For the annual Jardins, Jardin event held in Paris’ Tuileries Garden in early June, Chanel is casting a highlight on the orange blossom tree.  From Thursday to Sunday, people can experience it through an immersive visit held in a garden and installation tucked behind the Orangerie museum — aptly chosen, because it once served because the greenhouse of the previous Tuileries Palace.  Upon arrival, to set the scene, guests encounter a 2,150-square-foot garden bursting with colourful flowers and trees, including some lent from the Château de Versailles’ greenhouse.   Inside a structure, neroli from France, which stems from the orange blossom’s distillation, is highlighted. Donna Karan Sets Date for Inaugural ‘Style for Strength’
Last yr, timed to Veterans Day, Donna Karan announced a latest initiative in collaboration with Veteran Services USA, cofounded by Cheri Kaufman. Now, several days after Memorial Day, the designer is unveiling the primary “Style for Strength: Celebrating Our Heroes” event, set for Monday at Urban Zen in Recent York. Karan recruited 18 of her designer peers to repurpose and redesign vintage military clothing, which shall be auctioned off throughout the inaugural event, happening at Urban Zen’s West Village space.
