Studio Berçot Shutters Because of Financial Woes
PARIS — Fashion school Studio Berçot, whose alumni include designers Isabel Marant, Martine Sitbon, Vanessa Seward, Roland Mouret and Vincent Darré, has shut its doors after financial difficulties made maintaining the college unviable, director Marie Rucki confirmed to WWD. Student numbers had dwindled lately, said Rucki, exacerbated by the pandemic making it difficult for international students to hitch the college, which was independently run. “Despite extremely good results, operating costs had just turn out to be too expensive, given the number of scholars,” Rucki said. “It’s an incredible shame for the occupation.” The Studio Berçot, known for pushing students to cultivate a person approach to design, was opened as Cours Berçot by Suzanne Berçot in 1954 and had been run by Rucki...

The Estée Lauder Cos.’ Fabrizio Freda returned to the highest of WWD Beauty Inc.’s listing of the highest-paid beauty executives in 2022, despite his 61.4 percent drop in pay for the corporate’s fiscal 12 months ended June. He was not alone — nine of the opposite leading executives on the list also saw a cut in pay, with Coty’s Sue Nabi dropping from highest earner in 2021, attributable to the stock-based compensation involved in her sign-on package, to number 18 in 2022. The drop in Freda’s paycheck was also linked to a discount in stock-based compensation. From lipstick smears to foundation beards, making out with someone who's wearing make-up has its risks and by the looks of the models on the Schiaparelli Couture show yesterday, there was some hot and heavy motion with a few smurfs backstage prior to the runway.  Schiaparelli is at all times a highlight of the Couture calendar, because of Daniel Roseberry and his expansive, madcap collections. Last season, the designer paid tribute to the beasts of Dante’s The Divine Comedy with intricately crafted, hyper-realistic animal heads and pretend fur ensembles.
