Confronting slowing consumer spending this fall, Macy’s did manage to drag off a “solid” begin to Black Friday gift shopping, Macy’s Inc.’s outgoing chairman and chief executive officer Jeff Gennette told WWD just after his walk-through of the the retailer’s Herald Square flagship Black Friday morning.
