This is the now y’all. Elegance means something different than it did before. Fashion is a response and Kim is responding accurately. There is undeniably an effortless cool here. What lacked in his resort collection and is present here is a loud and clear voice. It’s street but still Fendi, it’s kimono but still Fendi, it’s Halston but still Fendi. There are a thousand references, but they’re distilled so finely. This is the mark of a deft designer, there is a level of familiarity…but it’s elegantly done. It pays homage to the different artisans that have come before but it’s now, it’s tomorrow. He’s truly speaking through fashion like Phoebe Philo did over a decade ago, in my opinion. Minimal chic, but maximal impact. Wearable but unique. Sleek but touched by artisanal hands. Bravo.
