His Style, His Salary, His Skincare – Essence

At the primary Essence panel in BeautyCon™ history, moderated by Kory Jarvis, panelists Theo Turner and Hakeem Holmes shared their men’s beauty secrets. More energy, more time and extra money — men are upping their self-care regimen by investing in services that keep their skin supple, toned and moisturized. From their must-try men’s beauty secrets to latest skincare obsessions, the panelists discussed the products that give them their glow factor. 

Inthe “His Style, His Salary, His Skincare” panel discussion, industry leaders discussed how men will need to have more. Black men motivated to maintain themselves invest more energy, more time, and extra money of their self-care regimen than generations before. Greater than just shaving cream and a razor, the BeautyCon™ panel really helpful additional skincare services to enrich their traditional line-up — and take away all of the stigma in between. 

“I believe the most important misconception is [self-care] is feminine or selfish,” Essence Fest Culture Curator, Hakeem Holmes said. “Once men embrace self-care, they are going to develop into more comfortable with their beauty.” 

In line with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), self-care is linked to improved physical, emotional and mental health. From stress management to healthy skin, self-care for men within the Black community is required to keep up our natural, inner glow. “It’s time for us to stop neglecting ourselves,” Theo said. Greater than only a beauty trend, men are unlearning the stigma to take a position in a long-term commitment to their self-care. 

“No woman desires to take care of a person with a grimy nail bed,” said Essence moderator, Kory Jarvis. Manicures, a cosmetic treatment to look after your hands and nails have acted as an introduction to men’s beauty secrets. Identical to in Poetic Justice, clean fingernails are a logo of self-care and are attractive to women because it shows their man takes care of their appearance. 

“For a very long time I didn’t know what self-care was and I had to find it over time,” Hakeem said. He shared how he used to play in his mother’s self-care products, including masks and makeup, to assist treat and canopy blemishes. Most men didn’t find out about self-care by experience, but by observing the ladies of their household. As he grew into his manhood, Hakeem developed his men’s beauty secrets: water, wash, serum.

Self-care regimens might be as easy as water intake. “I only keep water in my house,” he said.
