“Here’s the thing,” Carey said during a phone interview with WWD, speaking of All I Want, the lipstick which will probably be available in December online. “Most individuals would have expected me to have created a shiny red lip for the vacations, but one thing most individuals don’t learn about me is that’s something I never wear and that I hate on myself. I find it irresistible on other people, but I just can’t do a red lip. It just doesn’t work on me. So, we were talking about doing something for the vacations, and I said, ‘Let’s do a Champagne shimmer.’ It’s form of a throwback color, but I believe it’s really beautiful. We called it ‘All I Want’ because that’s my hottest Christmas song and certainly one of my hottest songs ever. It’s definitely a celebration lipstick. Wear it along with your winter white.”

This isn’t Carey’s first time at the wonder rodeo. “I’m actually a beauty school dropout,” she said with fun. The star attended, but didn’t graduate from, beauty school — a backup plan in case the singing didn’t work out, she said.

Carey’s creative process for songwriting and cosmetics creation are similar, she said. “Creating makeup is only different from songwriting since you’re a product, somewhat than writing something and recording it,” Carey said. “But this is analogous, since you’re using creative energy, channeling it into what you want. All the pieces from the packaging to the colours — it’s been such an incredible experience for me. It’s a labor of affection.”

Of the forthcoming Icon collection, Carey noted, “I’m not purported to talk an excessive amount of about it, nevertheless it definitely won’t disappoint. I believe it should be each commercially successful and an accurate representation of who I’m.” Past MAC icons have included Brooke Shields and Catherine Deneuve.

Carey was also recently named an icon by Harper’s Bazaar. “I’m undecided I actually have specific icons, but I’ve at all times admired Marilyn Monroe,” Carey said. “She’s been my favorite since I used to be a little bit girl. I actually have her white piano from when she was a little bit girl, and I collect all things Marilyn.”

Added James Gager, senior vice chairman and group creative director of MAC Cosmetics, “Mariah is the over-the-top pop and wonder icon.
