Not sure what is really happening here, to many codes and information for a single show. I get flashbacks all the time from Raf Calvin Klein, some elegant archetypic Prada silhouette here and there, meanwhile the old Bottega fights with the Daniel Lee Bottega. I just notice how Lee Bottega was strong and radical, the Matthew Bottega is kind of romantic but lacks of confidence in particular from the accsessories.

It’s been interesting reading the comments. Wearable or boring?
I’m pondering whether this is a backlash against fashion as art, which can at times be so extreme it really is unwearable, versus fashion as identity, or something entirely different. I’ve noticed a shift, a subtle change.
Last spring some designers and fashion media were pushing us to change out of our sweatpants into bright colours and outfits made to party. But what I’m seeing on the streets is very different – basics in black, grey and white, subtle colour, genderless, an emphasis on function and comfort, the reemergence of quality over quantity and the expectation that clothing should last more than one season. Many of us have emerged from lockdowns having refined and redefined our style. Dressing to impress doesn’t seem as important as dressing for who we are which, in many cases, is someone just trying to get through the day wearing something my mother would have described as “presentable”. This show would appeal to them.

Most of this looks wearable, comfortable and super sharp. The excellent use of fringe was especially a standout; but also the leather and color blocking were terrific. The one miss was a few of the over the top shoulder styles on otherwise great pieces; almost no one looks good in gigantic shoulders. Overall an excellent collection IMO.
