A recent survey of two,000 people carried out by OnePoll on behalf of the Fashion Retail Academy, sadly shows that the majority Brits never come to terms with their body image. 57 per cent admit they’ve never reached the purpose of body confidence and 29 per cent said don’t feel confident when searching for clothes.  “Living within the digital age, through which the airbrush is used a bit too liberally, it is simple to see why people feel self-conscious about their body image. Consumers are being always bombarded with unrealistic images of the human form,” says Lee Lucas, principal and CEO of the Fashion Retail Academy. A TikTok trend centred around a latest filter effect is being called out for body shaming and fatphobia.  Often known as the ‘chubby face’ filter, the effect gives users the looks of a fuller face and folks have been using it to assume what they might appear like in the event that they were at a better weight, before reverting back to their original appearance seemingly relieved to be “thinner” again. As I open up a PDF containing previews from the The Fat Zine – a freshly-launched publication created by fat-positive writers Gina Tonic and Chloe Sheppard, for fat people – the very first thing I see is a picture of a model called Elyonna Mone. Within the photo, which was shot by Izzy Jackson, Mone’s backside takes centre stage. She’s within the shower as gentle drops of water trickle down her frame. It strikes me that even on this age of supposed ‘body-positivity,’ it’s very rare to see images of fat bodies from behind.
