PARIS — Celine is making a significant push into beauty with the launch of makeup this fall.
The French house teased the road in its fashion film for winter 2024, which broke Tuesday. Glimpses of the lipstick appear throughout the spot, which feature models striding through quite a few tony Paris locations, akin to the Musée Bourdelle and Salle Pleyel concert hall.
“’La Collection de L’Art de Triomphe’ film marks the birth of Celine Beauté, the primary cosmetics line in the home’s history,” the brand said in an announcement.
Color cosmetics are painting the town. Makeup was the fastest-growing segment in prestige beauty by revenue within the U.S. last 12 months. And inside that category, lip makeup proved to be the strongest performer, with sales up 31 percent — representing growth two-times faster than the general category, based on Circana.
Celine Beauté is the brainchild of Celine artistic and image director Hedi Slimane and was born in 2023. It dovetailed from his launch of the Celine haute parfumerie collection, which debuted in 2019.
In the style film, models sport La Peau Nue lipstick, a part of the total 15-shade Le Rouge Celine collection that will probably be sold starting in 2025. But this fall, Celine will launch the primary satin lipstick shade, dubbed Rouge Triomphe.
“The creation of Celine Beauté comes to complement the cultural roots, promoting a French idea of femininity and allure, distilled over the past five years by Hedi Slimane in his latest institutional codes for the Maison Celine,” the home said within the statement.
Latest beauty collections will probably be launched by the brand each season. These could include lip balms, mascaras, eyeliners, eye pencils, loose powders and nail polishes, amongst other product categories.
European luxury groups are accelerating their move into beauty. Kering has taken its beauty in-house, and Richemont is constructing a Laboratoire de Haute Parfumerie.
LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Celine’s parent company, last March named a latest chairman and chief executive officer of the group’s Perfumes and Cosmetics division, Stéphane Rinderknech. That branch last 12 months registered sales of 8.27 billion euros, up 7 percent in reported terms against 2022.
