Chanel has announced today that Ammy Drammeh, Cécile Paravina and Valentina Li will likely be joining the home as global creative make-up partners. The three make-up artists are the primary to affix the Cometes Collective – a recent group of “emerging talents shaping the longer term of beauty” that will likely be added to in the longer term. They’ll help steer the direction of Chanel’s color cosmetics range and the event of latest collections.
Stuffed with imagination, life and color, the work Drammeh, Paravina and Li create has a way of freedom from convention and traditional beauty ideals. Their appointments to Chanel, a heritage brand steeped in tradition, suggests an exciting recent era and a fresh direction for the brand. The trio follow within the footsteps of previous artists who helmed Chanel make-up including Lucia Pica (now at Byredo) and Peter Philips (now at Dior).
“Each member of this collective has been chosen for his or her vibrant and singular vision of beauty in addition to their values that resonate with those of Chanel,” the brand said in an announcement. “Together, they may add a pioneering recent chapter to the House’s tradition of exploring the way in which women see themselves.” The primary Cometes Collective collections will launch in January 2024.
Each on the Dazed 100 last yr, Paravina and Li create expressive looks that captivate the attention and are unapologetically creative. Often fidgeting with perspective and the proportions of the face, Paravina’s hallmarks include distorted eye shapes, bleached brows and lipstick teeth, in addition to elongated lashes. Meanwhile, Li’s highly conceptual signature style takes inspiration from her love of cosplay, sci-fi movies and historical body art.
A longtime collaborator of Dazed, Drammeh draws on her Spanish and Gmabian cultural background for inspiration and describes her style as “uncomplicated and free”. Alongside working with names like Carrie Stacks, Kelsey Lu and LA Timpa for Dazed, she can also be a component of Mentoring Matters, an initiative that goals to determine equity and multiply opportunities for Black and Asian creatives.
