The moment I started to watch the video I knew there will be a nailbiting picture… while I understand the sentiment, as someone who bit her nails for 28 years, I can tell you we don't like or enjoy our own nails either. Getting the courage to go to someone, show them my nails remnants, bear their gaze and trust them enough to let them put on something….
It took me 3 weeks at first to reach out to my future technician and send her a picture with a ton of apology for being a burden.
I had about 10-11 tech, 3 just said lol no, tried press on etc, 2 were neutral, the left were friendly.
My nail artist whom I am going to I think for a year now walked with me through appointments every 2 weeks, pictures, breaks, I tore one nail down to the bed of it when I fell once…. she was with me, never shaming.
I have 4th week growth with a size M nail now; one popped off but it happens with being clumsy. It's thanks to her dedication, research for my hand, patience and the most important: safety net.
To finish my rant:
– we don't enjoy the nails, nobody can shame us the way we break ourselves every day for this sickness.
– it is a sickness, nobody does this ✨for funsies✨, it is a bad habit built on a wrong coping mechanism.
– it hurts. It f@cking hurts, like papercuts but every day. Warm water hurts. Pressure hurts. Cold hurts. Washing the dishes hurts.
– i didn't wear jewellery to not pull gaze toward my hands. I didn't wear my ring my ex proposed with.
– we are bullied relentlessly throughout our life for this.
-i have tried chili on it. Nail polish that tastes bitter.
– I never learned how to paint my nails.
– my mom was ashamed of me ( but never took me to the doctor, but that is a different story)
Be human with those who put their pain in your hands.

Didn't know I shouldn't take them off 😬😬😬 I do dip powder, so they have to be removed between sets. I've always used Soak Off ….now I feel bad because my nail lady is awesome

I’ve only ever got my fingernails done once professionally. It was about 10 yrs ago, & the lady asked me what I would like done & so I informed her. She got to work & by the time she was done I was just beyond embarrassed because the nails were different lengths & they were lumpy. I asked her if she could fix them but she said they were fine. She thought since she had been doing that kind of work for yrs that she could master it in 15 mins. I NVR got my fingernails done ever again.

I’ve only had acrylics less than 5 times in my 27 years. The last time I soaked mine in acetone to take the nails off but they didn’t look like the example here. I’m genuinely asking but should I not have done that? Is leaving the acrylics alone easier for nail techs?
