The Manchester-born make-up artist talks us through her journey, from gory film make-up to working with Vivienne Westwood and Rosalía

The Dazed Beauty Community is our ever-expanding encyclopaedia of creatives and emerging talent from the world over who’re redefining the best way we take into consideration beauty. From supermodels to digital artists to make-up prodigies transforming themselves of their bedrooms, these are the wonder influencers of tomorrow who embody every part Dazed Beauty is about. Discover them here.

It was gore that Grace Sinnott was considering initially. When she first started off as a make-up artist she thought she would give attention to gory film computer graphics, but she in a short time found herself being drawn into the world of fashion. Now, she channels the transformative aspect of working on cinematic projects to editorials and campaigns. “I really like watching people transform into these different characters after they’ve got a glance on, it’s a very powerful thing. I really like to see it!” she says.

Tapping into the present fascination with otherworldly and experimental beauty trends, Sinnott’s signature style has a futuristic edge. Recognising that “algorithmic art and machine learning is certainly a very exciting avenue for fashion and sweetness”, Sinnott finds the balance between classic and contemporary glamour. For a Mulger campaign, she created a dramatic smokey eye in pinks and reds which was paired with a black and red ombre lip, while a Blumarine campaign saw frosted silver lipstick perfectly matched to a shimmering silver eye.

Born and raised in Manchester, now based in north-east London, the 28-year-old’s growing portfolio includes fashion brands comparable to Mulberry, Heaven Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood – a profession highlight for Sinnott. She has also worked a few of today’s most in-demand it girls including the likes of Rosalía, bebadoobee, Iris Law and FKA twigs. Below Sinnott tells us about her earliest beauty memory, key inspirations and current obsessions.

How did you get into make-up?

Grace Sinnott: I’ve all the time been obsessive about make-up for so long as I can remember, but once I first started off I assumed I desired to do film and gore, but that modified in a short time into fashion.

What are you trying to speak through your work?

Grace Sinnott: That there aren’t any rules to make-up and to all the time do what you would like.

What’s your earliest beauty-related memory?

Grace Sinnott: Probably my older sister coming home and I’ve got a face of her make-up on. I’d sneak into her room and get really excited by all her products. Sorry Kate!

What does beauty mean to you?

Grace Sinnott: It’s a difficult one since it changes each time I work, to be honest. That in itself is the wonderful thing about beauty and self-expression through make-up; it’s such a brief state. At the tip of the day, it’s washed off and also you never see it again. It gives you permission to be totally unpredictable.

When do you’re feeling most beautiful?

Grace Sinnott: With a fantastic eyeliner on!

What’s the long run of beauty?

Grace Sinnott: I believe algorithmic art and machine learning is certainly a very exciting avenue for fashion and sweetness – people appear to be really intrigued by it and I keep seeing increasingly of it.

Are you optimistic in regards to the future?

Grace Sinnott: Definitely.

Tomorrow you get up with one other face of your selection. Whose is it and why?

Grace Sinnott: Probably my 22-year-old self’s face!

What’s your biggest profession highlight up to now?

Grace Sinnott: Vivienne Westwood has all the time been considered one of my favourite designers. I used to be obsessed as an adolescent, so doing a campaign for her felt really cool.

Describe your beauty aesthetic in three words.

Grace Sinnott: Sharp, tough, sexy!

Which fictional character do you most relate to?

Grace Sinnott: Bart Simpson perhaps, I’m mischievous.

Who’s your beauty icon?

Grace Sinnott: I really like Pete Burns a lot, the eyes brows, the lip liner every part.

What’s your current obsession?

Grace Sinnott: Evil eyebrows!
