I bought the exact same kit and lamp when I started! I also have short nails. It's literally been like 7 months and I'm just starting to get really good now, so don't give up if it takes tiiiime! The Apres extra short tips are the perfect length for me.
My quick tips:
– invest in a mini flash cure lamp with a stand. Makes it SO much easier to apply full coverage tips and have them placed/set properly. Flash cure each while applying, then the full set for 3 mins with the SunUV lamp.
– if you have weak natural nails I'd highly recommend a rubber base gel to make them more flexible and sturdy under the tips so they don't pop off. Apres has a good one.
– I also use a UV bonding gel bc my nails are so short and flimsy. It acts like double sided tape and REALLY seals the builder gel and tips to the nail. I use IBD uv bonder, and it's made a huge difference.
– cuticle and free edge (sides of your nails) prep and avoiding flooding is EVERYTHING to preventing lifting. Invest in cuticle remover and gently but thoroughly get rid of those bad boys. Less is more when applying the builder gel onto the nail tips. Then very thoroughly clean up and seal your edges with your efile once each nail is applied. I like to take a thin brush that's been dabbed in acetone to blend the gel and nail to my cuticle line also.
– finally, two observations from my own experience with the products but that may differ for everyone: I really dislike the Apres top coat and find it doesnt cure nicely and separates sometimes. I'm going to purchase Kokoist as I've heard great things and may try them for builder gel as well after. Also, I don't think the SunUV lamp is the best. It gets the job done but a more powerful, fully UV lamp cures faster and better imo for fake tips and I'd recommend eventually upgrading to Apres or Kokoist if you stick with home nails! Very expensive but worth the investment for speed and safety.
– ok one more, I find the Modelones polishes to be really good quality application wise for the amazon price point. You've gotta be careful not to get it on the skin bc of potential allergies but they're pretty and have many kits.
GL on the nail journey! I've saved sooo much since ditching the salons and enjoy it, too!

Hey just a heads up from a nail tech, be super careful to not cure product on your skin. That can lead to contact dermatitis and allergies to acrylates which are in sooooo many things including a lot of dental things. Also double check that the wavelengths of that lamp match what the product needs to fully cure since it’s not from apres. They may seem cured but they may not be, which again can potentially lead to problems in the future. It looks like you used all apres products though which is excellent! Also pleeease be careful with the efile, improper use can really damage your nails, or cause injuries.

Next time, try using a mini lamp; it helps with the application of the Gel-X tip when gluing it down. Trust me, it makes a big difference, and it helps last longer when it's properly applied. Other than that, you did a really great job for your first time.

Just a little heads up, from someone who also does her nails at home; it’s so much easier to do your right hand if you start with your right hand. It’s more difficult if you start with your left hand.
