Lacoste and Sporty & Wealthy Unveil Collaboration

Lacoste and Sporty & Wealthy Unveil Collaboration

Lacoste is dipping into its archives for its latest collaboration.

The French fashion label is teaming with sportswear brand Sporty & Wealthy for a group that leverages Lacoste’s archival styles from the ’70s and ’80s. The 22-piece collection offers apparel and accessories including tracksuits, sweatshirts, pleated skirts, tank tops, jumpsuits, hats and polo shirts.

The gathering was co-created by Lacoste’s former creative director Louis Trotter and Sporty & Wealthy founder Emily Oberg.

“It was super clear that we each desired to go into the archives and have a look at the past,” Oberg said. “Our brand may be very much a vintage-inspired brand, so [Trotter] sent me a ton of photos of their archive from the ‘70s and ‘80s after which we just selected our favorites and worked off of that. We did fittings and updated them and made them a bit more suitable for today’s customer and that was sort of it. It was super easy and seamless and we worked so well because we each have an aligned vision and taste.”

As Sporty & Wealthy is rooted in sports — the brand has released several tennis collections, including an ongoing collaboration with Prince Tennis — the gathering leverages a lot of Lacoste’s own tennis-inspired archival styles.

Pieces include a white pleated tennis skirt, a light-weight blue halter crop top and matching shorts and a number of other polo shirts. The pieces merge Sporty & Wealthy’s iconography with Lacoste’s well-known crocodile logo.

“I personally love the halter top and mini short set simply because that’s sort of a really unique style for a tennis line,” Oberg said in regards to the standout pieces in the gathering. “It’s obviously not as functional as perhaps the tennis wear of today, but I feel it looks super cool. I feel the gathering basically is tennis-slash-holiday, so I feel all the pieces are things that you just’d wear on holiday, but additionally on the court.”

Collaborations have been a giant a part of Sporty & Wealthy’s business because the brand launched roughly five years ago. The brand has launched into collaborations with Solid & Striped, Adidas, Clark’s and others. Sporty & Wealthy’s second collaboration with Adidas is slated to be released next month.

“[Collaborations are] a extremely vital a part of our brand simply because I feel it’s at all times higher when two brands come together,” Oberg said. “I feel it’s much stronger. This shared vision of working together is such a fun and exciting thing for either side at all times. I feel we were capable of bring two different perspectives to the table and just create something larger than what we could create on our own.”

This can also be Lacoste’s latest collaboration this yr. Last month, the style label teamed with Netflix to create a group inspired by the streaming service’s popular TV shows, corresponding to “Bridgerton” and “Stranger Things.” The style label can also be celebrating its ninetieth anniversary this yr.

The Lacoste x Sporty & Wealthy collection ranges in price from $20 to $210 and will probably be available starting Wednesday in Lacoste stores and online.
