Yoga teacher and senior trainer at BLOK Letty Mitchell shares her suggestions
As a dancer, yoga teacher, artist, and senior trainer for BLOK, you’d imagine that Letty Mitchell can be perfectly in tune along with her wellness, but as lockdown began she began to grasp that wasn’t the case. “I used to show six days every week, so my lifestyle was working on a regular basis – I’d be teaching from morning to evening,” she tells us. “For me, having to decelerate has allowed me to practise what I preach. Actually having the time to calm down has been an actual blessing.”
The excellent news is that the time in isolation has given Letty the chance to reflect on her teachings and what’s most significant; mainly that in an effort to stay physically fit, it requires mental maintenance too. “100 per cent, it’s essential to work the body physically, it is advisable move energy out through the body,” she explains. “But your mind and body are completely coherent and work together – once we pacify the nervous system, the immune system goes up. The one technique to tune back into ourselves, once we get caught up with anxiety, drama, and things outside of ourselves, is thru meditation, mindfulness, and slowing down.”
Whether you’ve practised mindfulness before or not, Letty says one easy addition to your every day routine will make an enormous difference. “It could possibly feel overwhelming with the quantity of fabric, teachers, and classes on the market, but my suggestion can be to maintain it stripped back and easy,” she says. “Take a moment for yourself, just five minutes a day to shut your eyes and breathe. The brain might overcomplicate – it likes to try this – but just close your eyes and listen, that’s it.”
Practising what she preaches, Letty is allowing this era of reflection to alter how she works post-lockdown. “I’m going to present myself some day off, I’m not going to work six days every week,” she laughs. I’ve had a large epiphany by way of the importance of art and creativity. I don’t wish to turn into a robotic teacher, I need to all the time be relatable to what is going on globally and that may only stem from self-work. It’s crucial to present yourself time to develop your creative expression.”

She hopes that others will do the identical and muses on how the worlds of fitness and wellness will emerge renewed too. “Holistic health goes to be larger and I also think studios and fitness spaces shall be very fashionable, even when we will’t touch one another,” she says. “Some people say that the wellness industry is inauthentic, but I feel whether authentic or inauthentic, the indisputable fact that it’s booming means that folks will their way in. Eventually, I actually imagine that there shall be a world movement – that is our opportunity to transcend.”
Here, Letty shares her five tips about how you possibly can maintain your physical and mental wellbeing throughout lockdown and beyond.
SLOW DOWN
This might sound contradictory but resting and slowing down is so essential. It comes right down to going with the ebb and flow of life, not saying being swept away out of your intentions but just saying it’s global now that you could have the chance to pause. When you’re someone like me that was working ridiculous hours before lockdown, see this as a possibility to sort your nervous system out. Pacifying the nervous system goes to make your immune system go up. So, decelerate.
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS
Take heed to your intuition. Know that there are occasions we’d like to hearken to teachers, instructors, and folks outside of ourselves, but in addition that there are also times that we don’t need information because we have now all the knowledge we’d like to know inside. A bit of little bit of time to trust your intuition.
EXPLORE YOUR WHOLE BODY
A lot of teachers, including myself, are encouraging people to grasp where stress is held in your body. There are specific places like hips, shoulders, neck, and jaw which when you focus on stretching and releasing tension from makes an actual holistic difference to your whole health.
DO YOUR RESEARCH
From personal experience, I’d say use the resources which can be available to you in your individual time. Know that resources can be found without delay, say if you should tap into Tai Chi and also you’ve never done it before, or yoga or meditation – there are resources on the market for you when you’re ready and that doesn’t should be now.
APPROACH WELLNESS HOLISTICALLY
Acknowledge the several elements of yourself it is advisable focus on. What are you doing on your mental health? What are you doing on your emotional health? How are you eating? All of this stuff are really going to tie the bow in your whole wellness program. It’s not nearly working on one a part of ourselves. It’s the entire body.
