I started off making a 1918 evening skirt for my 1910s wardrobe, after which I ended up wearing it to Fashion week. ????????♀️

I did not need to hear that tickets might exist for this event ????????????????
My wallet, my project list, my sanity, it can't handle it.

Lovely skirt and fabulous red shoes!
Henry Long
one of the few actual pieces of real fashion that has appeared at any fashion show in recent years
Elisabeth Thinkjump
Abby’s red shoes are like the red version of Carries wedding Manolos!
Mak
I think it looks lovely as is. I would also love to see it with a sheer overskirt and a patterned underskirt

Every day is a good day to go for a piratey look! In fact, it pairs perfectly with a slow descent into madness! (As another person described it) I think the skirt looks great and would not be able to see any flaws without you pointing them out!
Also, your stress may be of your own making, but we still support you through it! ????

You definitely look like a fem Eric from the Little Mermaid.
Bee Frick
Abby you’re fabulous! I love just listening to you while you’re making things. Actuallly, I really enjoy all your videos ????. I hope one day I can attend an event you’re speaking at.
Bun Helsing's legacy
"We didn't MEAN to cosplay…" oh is that a vibe 🙂 Looks great! I need to figure out something I like from the 19-teens to make with my 1914 sewing machine!

Wait, people say they don't stitch over their pins‽ Those people are liars or are unenlightened to the easiness of it lol. I even periodically hit my pins while sewing by accident – not recommended lol.
Jac Kori
Congrats Abby. In spite of the challenges, you did an amazing job. This highlights how talented you really are.
Erin Rabideau
That 90s prom looked sooo great and hotttt! Show those fabulous arms! ????

I had never heard of Indiana Fashion Week until I watched this episode. The next day an IndyGo bus passes me with an ad for it (though sadly out dated).

That validating moment when The Great Abby sews over her pins. chefs kiss

If you have never bent(or broken) a needle because you were sewing over pins you haven't been sewing long enough
Nickie Hundevadt
I don't sew over pins… anymore. I had a needle break and fly close ish to my face. I'm too scared to sew like that now ????
Paula Hahn
You are very entertaining and obviously smart and talented at what you do. HOWEVER… A woman who sews is called a SEAMSTRESS, my dear. NOT a "sewist". I don't think that is even an actual word. I will check my Webster's Dictionary to verify.
P.S. Webster agrees with me.

Abby. Baby. Don’t be that American. Southampton isn’t in London, never has been in any way shape or form.
Amber The Beauty School Drop Out
Is there ever a project free of a meltdown? There is always at least one, even if it’s short lived. Lol

Ooh, big stretch!

I actually do NOT sew over my pins – no lie.
Each time the needle hits a pin, it can either bend the needle (then you have to replace it) or the pin, make the tip of the needle blunt (then you have to replace it), or break one or both of them making pieces of metal go flying…possibly into an eye or into your machine. Then you can't use your machine until either you or the sewing machine get out of the doctor after the metal bits have been fished out.
From having worked on sewing machines: Each time the needle hits a pin, it can alter the machine's timing in a miniscule way that will accumulate with each pin hit until your timing is off, your sewing ends up bad, and the machine has to be fixed. Manual machines experience this problem less than computerized ones but all machines will experience it.
So, to help keep your machine healthier, please don't sew over pins.
Note: This is not aimed at Abby…it's pretty much aimed at all sewists.

I used to sew over pins too. After like 2 or 3 years of doing it I looked at the bottom side of the presser foot. The silvery plating was totally gone, it was all raw brass. Idk if it was normal wear and tear, or if the pins scratched the plating off way faster than it was supposed to happen????either way with my new machine and her presser foot I try to be more careful. no sewing over pins if possible.????
I do know that I can buy a replacement presser foot, but I'd like to use the one I already have as long as possible.????
