Is it okay to do a fill on a recent client or must you remove every thing and begin fresh? Today Habib and Tracey discuss the possible complications that may occur when working on top of another person’s work and what to look out for when assessing a client’s current set of nails.

“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” That is the one most typical query people ask us. There’s an extended and rocky version but we’ll provide you with the short one. We now have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to begin her own business on the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did every thing in our power to support her. Ultimately, this can be a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He’s energy personified and has a real passion for developing one of the best skilled nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in just a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we’re an ideal team.
Today, greater than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is knowledgeable nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you one of the best quality products and we’ll show you easy methods to use them with incredible results. It’s really that straightforward.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

myself and the girls in my class are struggling. 1 student did 2 girls nails from the hair program and they both went home and had their nails redone somewhere else, i did a set of polygel the other day that was so bad i was embarassed. is this normal or does our teacher suck as bad as i think she does?

I had a client come with foreign nails, I did a 2 week fill once, then she came back for a second fill in 2 weeks again. 2 days later one finger fell off, but leaving all my fill work behind. Does the two week guarantee still apply?

How many times can you fill a set? I’ve got a client who did her first set in July. Every 4 weeks she comes back for a refill and new decorations. We have refilled twice already. Can I continue filling or should I suggest we start over?

When do you find the time to return these texts do you do it all at the end of the day or do you do it as you go as you get them

My former nail tech specifically stated in her policies that she doesn't work over previously done nails for the first reason you stated. She could only guarantee her own work and products.

I definitely agree this is a case by case basis. 9 time out of 10, I don't work over other work because of the products used in my area (MMA), and because most of the places around here don't even remove lift, they just fill over it (with all the moisture and bacteria trapped underneath).
I'm glad I have the clientele built up to not HAVE to do that as I had nothing but problems with the few sets I did just fill over when I was first starting out.
Thanks for this Biz Talk, super helpful! ????

I haven’t watched yet but I have a guess about what Tracey will have to say about turning away good money!

Just what is MMA ? Or MMA nails ?

Hey nail lovers!! ????????❤️????????
Viva La Vie Nails
Great topic and gives me something to think about as I grow. My current clients are mainly family and friends because they have been rocking with me when I first got into nails and continued through me going to school to get licensed. So the benefit is that I know that they are coming in with work I did, but as I grow that won’t be the case. I really need to become more familiar with working over others work or firmly deciding not to at all. Really great thinking points, thanks

When I did my training I was told to never remove other people’s work or fill other people’s work but, as you said, the way I look at it is these are potential new clients.

I am coming up on my 28th year as a Nail Tech (10 yrs Instructor). Thank you for inspiring this topic to add to my curriculum. I personally have always analyzed the product on the nails like I would when analyzing what service is best for my client starting from scratch. I have no problem working over good work. My first salon was in a tourist area so I got "Snowbirds" every winter. I remember the first time I filled and reshaped a client and the shock on her face at the transformation. I could have turned her away and never saw her again but, EVERY Fall she was in my door to book her appointments for the entirety of her stay.

My policy is that while I normally don’t mind going over someone else’s work when I can, I am not going to provide my usual guarantee until that old product has grown out.

I don’t like it when some people are very, super rude about not working on other people’s work! Like it’s the worst suggestion they have ever heard in their life! They can be polite and say it nicely. If they do I think people are more likely to want to go to them than someone who is snappy and abrupt!!
SazRob
I think I would but I wouldn’t guarantee the work until the original acrylic or gel had completely grown out which would probably take months. If I did remove it myself I would charge a lot because it can be a lot of work depending on what it is. I would ask that they have no nails on if they want the work guaranteed but ultimately it’s up to them if they want the guarantee or not. Not having the guarantee could end up costing them more over the long run if they keep having to get random fixes all the time.
