Ursula Stephen, her treasured hands, and her TRESemme toolkit struck again just hours after creating hair magic at Maki Oh during Recent York Fashion Week. The lead for the hair at Studio 189, a brand founded by Rosario Dawson and Abrimah Erwiah in 2013, Stephen is shaping a number of the hair trends we expect to see in the approaching seasons.
“Having different pieces and extensions gives you options. It’s how I keep it interesting. I’m just making it up today and getting creative with different shapes,” she told ESSENCE. “That’s what I like about natural hair. You may achieve this many cool shapes and just have a good time with it. You may never get uninterested in creating shapes. {For this show} I’m keeping the cultural aspect of the gathering with the hair, and keeping it high fashion.”

While the glitter coloured brows were an impactful a part of the sweetness look, it was the big and excessive hair that basically stood out. There have been bantu knots formed out of micro-braids, faux locs twisted into geometric shapes, locs shaped into mushroom cuts, and reverse braids with afro bangs, simply to name a number of.
“I feel the reverse cornrow is so cool I might find it irresistible to be in all places. That’s the way you switch it up. You alter the direction, play with the parting, and keep having fun with it,” Stephen finished.

And if the hair wasn’t fun enough, the runway show to highlight it was like an enormous party in Lagos, or Accra, or Bamako, or Ouagadougou. Erwiah’s West African background shined through in every way, from the prints within the clothing to the representation of the models. We haven’t see this much texture on the runway since, well, Texture On The Runway. It’s a stupendous thing when Black hair in its natural state and some other forms it takes on may be celebrated and highlighted as aspirational beauty.
