Greater than a dozen Lakeland law enforcement officials swarmed Ford’s Garage Monday afternoon after a caller told 911 that an energetic shooter was contained in the restaurant. Officers said it ended up being a prank referred to as swatting.

I don't condone swatting, I believe its a disgusting thing to do and those responsible should be charged. However, all of these swatting incidents could have been avoided if the police actually investigated the situation first before calling in the SWAT team. There are protocols already in place that need to be followed before calling in a SWAT team.

I'm sure glad it wasn't real! I don't think that's a bit funny to take our city police officers away on a prank call! What if someone really needed them during that time? I love the police! My Daddy was a Lakeland Police Officer from 1946- 1953.I bet the restaurant they were going to was named for Bob Ford who was a really good friend of my Daddy! I don't remember much about it but I went hunting with both of them when I was very small like around 3 or 4. Bob Ford got killed when his tow truck ran over him during the making of the Lakeland Civic Center.
