PARIS — What are L’Oréal’s plans for Aesop, the Australian luxury personal care company that the group just signed an agreement to accumulate, marking its largest M&A move up to now? Cyril Chapuy, president of L’Oréal Luxe, outlined strategy following the deal that was announced late Monday night. As previously reported, the proposed transaction with the vendor, Brazil’s Natura & Co., values Aesop at greater than $2.5 billion. Aesop’s sales in 2022 were $537 million. L’Oréal has expressed confidence that Aesop will within the near future join the Luxe division’s coterie of “billionaire brands,” which also include Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani Beauty and Kiehl’s. Scotch & Soda Acquired by Bluestar Alliance
Bluestar Alliance, a Recent York-based brand management company, said Monday it has acquired Scotch & Soda, the Amsterdam-based men’s and girls’s lifestyle brand. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Scotch & Soda operates 253 freestanding stores across Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, and is carried in 7,000 retailers worldwide. The corporate makes womenswear, menswear, kidswear, denim, eyewear, fragrances and accessories. Scotch & Soda filed for bankruptcy earlier this month in its home country of the Netherlands, citing “severe money flow issues” because of a domino effect of the pandemic, war in Ukraine and inflation, as reported. The deal, intended to assist grow the brand, closed for as much as 10 million kilos, or the equivalent of 5 times sales, confirmed Joël Palix, founding father of boutique consultancy Palix Unlimited. He acted as a mergers-and-acquisitions adviser to Nailberry, alongside Nnenna Onuba, an investor and strategic financial adviser, who founded LBB Skin Ltd. Silverwood Brands is a beauty platform created by Andrew Gerrie, a cofounder of Lush.
