What the Taliban’s beauty salon ban means for Afghan
In early July, the Taliban ordered the closure of beauty salons and gave salon owners given a month to shut their doors. Beauty salons were also ordered to shut when the Taliban was last in power, between 1996 and 2001, but many reopened after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan. Many remained open even after US forces withdrew from the country in 2021 and the Taliban regained power. They provided women with jobs, services, and a community space to fulfill and connect with other women – spaces which are already hard to return by for Afghan women. Just days before the top of 2022, a wealthy display of sable, chinchilla, mink, fox and other furs were arrange inside a pop-up store where the posh items were selling for 75 percent off. The retail outpost contained in the high-end Beverly Center, a big shopping complex adjoining to Beverly Hills, was the last hurrah for Maximilian Furs’ business in California. That is the second time the GOP has stepped in to kill the CROWN Act The CROWN Act, a chunk of US laws that might ban discrimination against an individual due to their natural hairstyle or texture, has faced one more roadblock as Republicans have halted the bill’s passage within the Senate. A Swim Cap Made For Black Hair Gets Approval
Uwe Krejci/ Getty Images Swimming caps specifically designed for Black hair have been approved by the world’s governing body for the game, NPR reports. The Soul Cap was developed to offer higher fit and chlorine protection for thicker, curlier hair. The creators of the British brand sought approval for the product before the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021. Nonetheless, they were rejected by the swimming federation, referred to as FINA. FINA claimed that athletes competing on the world stage have “never used, neither require to make use of, caps of such size and configuration,” based on The Associated Press.  The organization also said that the cap doesn't “[follow] the natural type of the top,” a rule outlined in FINA’s requirements for approved swimwear.  The backlash to...
