Kristen Stewart Attends Chanel Métiers D’Art Show in Tokyo
TOKYO — Actress and longtime Chanel ambassador Kristen Stewart was within the Japanese capital Thursday for a repeat showing of the home’s 2022-23 Métiers D’Art show, which was first unveiled in Dakar, Senegal, last December. Wearing a white T-shirt and tweed miniskirt, Stewart sat front row within the cavernous venue that hosted the event. She was joined by local celebrities, influencers and customers of the brand. Before the models hit the runway, the show opened with a tribute to Japanese composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, who died of cancer in March. A WOOLF IN CHIC CLOTHING: Kim Jones and Dior aren’t finished celebrating the Bloomsbury Group. The French fashion home is supporting “Bring No Clothes: Bloomsbury and Fashion,” billed as the primary major exhibition to explore the style impact of the famous cultural collective, whose ringleaders Virginia Woolf, Duncan Grant, E.M. Forster, Vanessa Bell, John Maynard Keynes and Lady Ottoline Morrell helped set the template for contemporary dressing. The sponsorship follows Jones’ spring 2023 men’s collection for Dior, which was done in partnership with the Charleston Trust and featured prints drawn from Grant’s artworks and furniture designs. FLOWER POWER: One other 12 months, one other plant. For the annual Jardins, Jardin event held in Paris’ Tuileries Garden in early June, Chanel is casting a highlight on the orange blossom tree.  From Thursday to Sunday, people can experience it through an immersive visit held in a garden and installation tucked behind the Orangerie museum — aptly chosen, because it once served because the greenhouse of the previous Tuileries Palace.  Upon arrival, to set the scene, guests encounter a 2,150-square-foot garden bursting with colourful flowers and trees, including some lent from the Château de Versailles’ greenhouse.   Inside a structure, neroli from France, which stems from the orange blossom’s distillation, is highlighted. PARIS — Chanel is closing on luxury’s ultra-exclusive $20 billion threshold, reporting revenues gained 17 percent last yr to $17.22 billion, while operating profits rose 5.8 percent to $5.78 billion. The French fashion house trumpeted double-digit growth across all product lines, and noted retail teams “nurtured local clienteles” during pandemic restrictions, alluding to lockdowns in China that dented luxury growth last yr. Revenues in Asia-Pacific gained 14.3 percent to $8.65 billion on a comparable basis, stripping out the impact of currency fluctuations and changes in company structure. Revenues improved 29.6 percent in Europe to $4.72 billion and 9.5 percent within the Americas to $3.86 billion.
