EXCLUSIVE: AZ Factory to Showcase Young Designer Lora Sonney
PARIS — AZ Factory will showcase the work of emerging designer Lora Sonney at an event during Paris Couture Week as a part of its ongoing commitment to support recent talents, the home revealed exclusively to WWD. Following Tennessy Thoreson’s cabaret show last season, Sonney — a fellow graduate of the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD) — will present 10 looks inspired by the nice outdoors at a show to be held on July 3 within the garden of the Fondation Cartier, which is home to AZ Factory’s atelier. Historic Swiss manufacturer Jakob Schlaepfer, where Sonney is a textile designer, will support the material research for the project, it added. Grace Wales Bonner Wins BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund Award
LONDON — Grace Wales Bonner has scooped the most recent BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund for menswear, which comes with a 12-month business mentoring program; pro-bono legal services, and a money prize of 100,000 kilos. Previous winners include Nicholas Daley, Ahluwalia, A-Cold-Wall and Craig Green. The U.S. State Department has acknowledged its efforts on behalf of designer Khadijah Shah, who's being imprisoned in Pakistan. The bridal, eveningwear and ready-to-wear designer has dual citizenship in Pakistan and the U.S. Her firms Zaha and Élan are based in Pakistan. In keeping with published reports, she faced arrest by Pakistani police on account of her alleged involvement within the May 9 demonstrations on the Corps Commander House in Lahore. At the moment, supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vandalized the property, which is generally known as “Jinnah House,” following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan on account of charges of corruption. London-based dressmaker Charli Cohen’s pursuit of fashion’s future has brought her to Blizzard Entertainment, with an upcoming collaboration with the latter’s much anticipated game Diablo IV. Hewing to the fantasy role-playing game, Cohen puts fashion’s lens on the dark world of Sanctuary, a dramatic stylized environment where players congregate in towns, trade, fight formidable bosses and compete against other players.
