How Lipstick Sales Are Faring within the U.S., in
From the return of lip gloss to the growing movement toward skincare infused lip offerings, lip makeup is within the midst of an evolution. In honor of National Lipstick Day, a fast glimpse into how lipstick is faring amidst all of it. Data from Circana shows lip makeup was the fastest-growing segment within the U.S. makeup market in the course of the first half of 2023, growing 35 percent in prestige and 21 percent in mass. Lipstick sales specifically grew 14 percent in the course of the period. Ulta Beauty reports the lip category is “one where we see the most important growth,” namely driven by a consumer shift toward multitasking formulas, oils and glosses. A Breakdown of How Mass Beauty Sales Are Faring
Inflation could have cooled in May, in accordance with national figures, but as recently as April it was still impacting mass beauty, each positively and negatively, latest data from NIQ showed. “Across mass retail, we're seeing the key beauty categories are benefiting from inflation, with units lagging overall, but hefty price increases have kept dollar sales afloat,” said Anna Mayo, vice chairman of NIQ’s beauty vertical.
