Maybelline Shifts Focus to Online in China – WWD

The L’Oréal-owned American cosmetic brand Maybelline is step by step adjusting its online and offline mix in China because it goals to shift its focus to the web market, the brand confirmed Wednesday. Local media reported that the brand is step by step phasing out all physical stores in China. Maybelline clarified that it is just shutting down underperforming and end of leasing contract stores available in the market. The brand still operates around 10,000 offline stores, including those in Watsons and cosmetics stores in China, in addition to online flagships on Tmall and JD.com. Department Stores Give attention to Home’s Online Potential

MILAN — The house and decor sector represented 15 percent of the general total department store business on average in 2022 and the category posted stable revenue growth between 2019 and 2022, as major players give attention to curating their online offering to spice up sales, the Paris-based International Association of Department Stores said Monday. “In 2020 and 2021 the category bumped to a peak as customers were specializing in their homes, and growth was going down mainly online because of lockdowns,” IADS’ managing director Selvane Mohandas du Ménil told WWD. Sales of Italian Leather Rise; Concentrate on Interiors

MILAN — Italy’s leather industry is anticipated to report an increase in turnover of about 7.3 percent in 2022 to 4.5 billion euros, boosted by a 5 to 7 percent increase in sales to the interiors segment, in line with preliminary estimates by UNIC, Italy’s Tanners’ Association. In a document sent to WWD on Tuesday, UNIC said exports of Italian-made leathers to the U.S. rose by 2 percent in 2022 in comparison with 2021, while exports to France led gains, rising 33 percent last yr, followed by Spain, up 25 percent, and Portugal, up 20 percent.
