EXCLUSIVE: Kenzo Is Staging Its First Show in China

BUILDING BRIDGES: Kenzo will stage its first show in China on July 28, parading its men’s and ladies’s spring 2024 collection in Shanghai. Kenzo creative director Nigo originally unveiled the gathering on June 23 during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, selecting as a venue the Passerelle Debilly, a footbridge over the Seine river that connects the Palais de Tokyo and the Eiffel Tower. Nigo has made the interplay between late Japanese designer Kenzo Takada and the French capital a central theme of his Kenzo. “A bridge between cultures” is how he put it during a recent interview with WWD. Sabyasachi Mukherjee Sweeps London, Bernard Arnault Makes an Impression

ANIMAL INSTINCTS: Maximalist designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee swept into London, and into British royal circles this week, bearing a bunch of special creations. He showed his high jewelry collection at Lancaster House, round the corner to St. James’s Palace, and created the white elephant-shaped shola masks that King Charles III and Queen Camilla wore to the Animal Ball, a fundraiser in aid of the Elephant Family charity on Wednesday night. Elephant Family is a charity cofounded by Mark Shand, Queen Camilla’s late brother, that works to guard Asia’s wildlife and natural landscapes. “Save the elephants, and then you definately save the forest — and then you definately save yourself,” Shand told W Magazine, WWD’s former sister publication, in 2008. The charming Shand fell...

Will 2023 Be One other ‘Golden Yr’ for Luxury

SHANGHAI — In contrast to most predictions that expect China to start 2023 with a U-shape recovery, the country’s luxury retail got off to a superb start this 12 months and it was well reflected in first-quarter results for the essential luxury conglomerates. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury group, saw its overall first-quarter revenues rise 17 percent year-over-year, doubling analysts’ expectations. LVMH’s shares soared to a record high on Monday, which led the posh giant to grow to be the primary European company to surpass $500 billion in market cap. “We registered some pretty nice pick-up in China, which bodes well for the remainder of the 12 months,” said Jean-Jacques Guiony, chief financial officer of LVMH, who characterised...
