In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of Billie Jean King’s milestone “Battle of the Sexes” win over former number-one tennis player Bobby Riggs, E.l.f. Skin is donating $50,000 to the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative. Established by King and fellow tennis player Ilana Kloss in 2014, the nonprofit goals to advertise inclusivity and equal pay across the workforce. “Billie Jean King has spent her life championing women and impacting positive change,” said Patrick O’Keefe, vp of integrated marketing communications at E.l.f. Beauty. In 1973, King formed the Women’s Tennis Association and won equal prize money for female tennis players on the U.S. Open. It was an evening of high-fives, hugs, standing ovations, tears and celebration at Harlem’s Fashion Row’s sixteenth annual Fashion Show and Style Awards, celebrating hip-hop’s fiftieth anniversary. Held at the enduring Apollo Theater in Harlem, the event honored Stella Jean as designer of the yr; Kelly Rowland as fashion icon; Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Vogue’s global contributing editor as editor of the yr; Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald, a Los Angeles-based styling duo, as stylists of yr, and photographer Johnny Nuñez as hip-hop trailblazer. Jean Paul Gaultier Is the Visual Guru Behind Recent
Jean Paul Gaultier still has a taste for fashion’s outer fringes: As curator and visual design director of the subsequent cabaret-style revue at Berlin’s Friedrichstadt-Palast, Gaultier conscripted the alien-looking Canadian couple often known as Fecal Matter, and the Russian performance artist Sasha Frolova, synonymous with latex and abstract forms. “Falling | In Love” is the title for the show, billed as the costliest ever mounted by the state theater owned by the City of Berlin. The production budget was nearly 14 million euros and the show debuts on Sept. 21.
