After Monthlong Strike, Recent School Students Return to Class

After Monthlong Strike, Recent School Students Return to Class
With a tentative five-year contract reached with the ACT-UAW Local 7902, the Recent School resumed in-person classes but now students have a couple of grievances. The union representing part-time faculty ended their monthlong strike — the longest one amongst adjunct faculty within the U.S. — over the weekend. Union leadership is anticipated to recommend the brand new agreement, which protects health care advantages and ensures that part-time faculty are paid for added work that is finished outside of the classroom. There are about 2,600 Recent School employees represented by the union and 1,789 of them are part-time faculty which are teaching fall semester classes. ‘This Is Terrorism’: Howard University Students Forced To Evacuate
Drew Angerer/Getty Images Bomb threats forced Howard University students to evacuate the college’s campus twice in 48 hours last week, just as they returned to high school to begin the autumn semester.  The 2 bomb threats come just months after the college and other Historically Black Colleges and Universities needed to lock down or delay the beginning of classes because of comparable threats. The buildings got the all-clear later that morning. “It was difficult for...

In a news release, it was announced that the 146-year-old institution will offer students the choice to major or minor in African American studies starting this fall. “An element of the HBCU experience for a lot of students is a journey to self-identification, Blackness, and trying to know the Black experience higher,” said Director and Associate Professor of AAS Jeanelle Hope, Ph.D in a news release. “It [African American Studies] provides students with the language to know the world...

Goldman Sachs To Invest .3M Into Black Students In
The “racial tech gap,” between Black students and other ethnic groups could threaten the likelihood of them landing meaningful employment, and ever closing the wealth gap in a rapidly digitizing labor market. Scary, right? Fortunately, Goldman Sachs Asset Management is aiming to vary that. In an announcement made earlier this month, the financial titan will develop into a premier sponsor of the website positioning (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity) Tech Developer, with a commitment of $2.25 million over the following three years. The initiative’s goal is to supply Black, Latinx, and Native American undergraduate students the resources needed to chart a linear path to a tech profession right after completing their studies. “While Tech is a high-growth industry, only 5% of...
