Shine Talent Group Launches Angel Investment Fund – WWD

A Latest Wave of Design Talent at Australian Fashion Week

SYDNEY — Great weather, Insta-friendly show locations and a slew of recent faces delivered the excitement at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, whose resort 2024 collections showcase wrapped on Friday at Sydney’s Carriageworks venue.  A complete of 43 shows featured some 54 designers, not including the #WeWearAustralian finale, which showcased 88 brands. The general public purchased tickets for seven shows through organiser IMG’s two-year-old consumer initiative AAFW: The Experience.  A lot of participating brands are celebrating milestones: midmarket retailer Cue, 55 years in business; Aje, 15 years, and Michael Lo Sordo and Anna Quan, each a decade. Black Designers From Theaster Gates and Prada Group Cohort

As promised, artist Theaster Gates and Prada Group are helping pave paths of access for creatives of color. Three members of the 14-person Dorchester Industries Experimental Design Lab assembled last yr for the inaugural three-year collaborative program are making their approach to this yr’s Venice Architecture Biennale, opening Saturday, to indicate their work. When the cohort was announced in April last yr, Gates, the brainchild behind this system, told WWD, “The Experimental Design Lab will develop into each a platform and a pipeline for exceptional Black and brown designers to be acknowledged for his or her brilliance and regarded for creative opportunities at the highest levels of artistic collaboration.” And he’s making good on his word.
