Vitamin C is a skincare powerhouse for a reason: It protects against free radicals, improves tone, texture, and radiance, and transforms skin with minimal irritation. In the event you ask any dermatologist or beauty editor, the ingredient is certain to have a spot of their morning routine (it also pairs so nicely with sunscreen). But vitamin C is not perfect. It has a brief shelf-life, and it’s notoriously unstable.
Not to say, most vitamin C serums I even have encountered have an odd smell (like dirty pennies?) that may scare a skincare novice. So, I looked to Yon-Ka Paris for an answer to the drawbacks of vitamin C. The French skincare brand, which is favorite amongst well-heeled Parisians, recently launched a stable, super-potent vitamin C that smells so good.
What’s the recent Serum C20?
I’m a fan of Yon-Ka Paris, particularly for his or her gentle approach to skincare that typically couples actives with skin-loving essential oils (that don’t break my combination skin out). And the brand new Serum C20 isn’t any different. It’s powered by 20 percent vitamin C courtesy of superfoods like turmeric and pomegranate. While these ingredients deal with helping to fade hyperpigmentation and luminosity, essential oils like apricot and sweet orange (the latter is where the serum gets the delightful orange scent) help reduce irritation. The formula is 99.9 percent natural.
How I Tested It
I began using this oil in early January and it lasted me over two months, despite using it every morning. Despite the oil texture, I slotted this vitamin C serum into my routine where I often use the brightening ingredient: After a hydrating serum and before a moisturizer. But because that is an oil formula, I had to make sure it was the last product I applied before my moisturizer to avoid any pilling.
I began testing this serum within the thick of Latest York winter, so the luxurious feeling of the oil did wonders for my dehydrated skin. I used a dropper full every morning and took advantage of the slick texture through the use of the serum as slip for a facial massage. I massaged the serum until it fully absorbed into my skin before moving onto a moisturizer. As we move into warmer months, I still find myself reaching for the formula to offer skin an additional layer of nourishment. Although the serum comprises oils, I didn’t find my combination, acne-prone skin to be affected by them.
Ease of Use
While I typically prefer to maintain my serums and face oil separate, this hybrid makes case for combining the 2. I assumed it will feel greasy on my skin, but after applying the product, the lightweight essence immediately sinks in. Plus, under makeup, the serum doesn’t pill or add unwanted shine.
Final Rating: 4/5
After using this serum religiously for a couple of months, I could see quite the difference: My skin looked radiant, had more even tone, and felt hydrated. For a vitamin C serum, this formula leaves a pleasant glow and helps brighten post-inflammatory dark spots and discoloration from the sun. Though you’ll find vitamin C serums for drugstore prices as of late, the luxurious texture, delightful citrus scent, and long-lasting, potent formula made this value it to me.
