“The whole lot you absorb in life by some means stays in your head,” says Sabine Marcelis, an artist based in Rotterdam within the Netherlands. Marcelis can still remember the way in which sunlight struck the mountaintops and the moon would shine upon the ocean when she was growing up in Latest Zealand.
It’s no coincidence that her work today explores light interactions through installation, sculpture, and even product design: translucent pastel tables that appear to glow and white orb lighting fixtures for IKEA that recall the moon. “Have fun your individual uniqueness,” says Marcelis, a lesson she has passed along to the five young artists that comprise the Women Bauhaus Collective, formed by skin-care brand La Prairie. “Because ultimately, that is what is going to really make you stand aside from everyone else.” While Marcelis is busy designing and mentoring students, these are the products she relies on most.
“I’ve dyed my hair white-blonde since I used to be 16, so it needs some extra love. I put Davines Melu Hair Shield in before blow-drying to provide it an additional little bit of protection. Kevin Murphy Crystal Angel Illuminating Gloss Color Enhancing Shine Treatment keeps the colour looking fresh. I take advantage of it every three days.”
“I’m huge on baths. They bring about a lot calm to me. I purchased Angan Arctic Thyme Bath Salt on a visit to Iceland and I have been bathing [with it] ever since.”
“The Diptyque Mimosa Scented Candle sparks so many memories for me of spending time within the South of France. It’s hands down my favorite scent on the earth. Byredo Vetyver Hand Wash almost acts as a perfume due to its [woodsy] smell. It’s a pleasant method to start the day.”
“I do not wear an excessive amount of makeup and I’m quite bad at washing my face at the top of the day. But within the morning I’ll use La Roche-Posay Innovation Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser for a fresh start. It cleanses your face without drying it out. I freak out if I do not have Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm with me on a regular basis. I keep one in my automotive, studio, and [travel] bag.”
“Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Universal Hair Balm is form of an all the things oil. It’s on your hair, but while you’re done [applying it], it also works as a hand cream. I’m so adventurous with color and loud in my designs, but I all the time have the identical sort of [pulled-back] hairdo. I take advantage of Evo Shebang-a-Bang Dry Spray Wax to get the little flyaways down.”
“I [didn’t] have much of a beauty routine, but since I began using La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift within the morning, my skin is like, ‘Finally, you care about me again. Thanks!’ La Prairie Skin Caviar Essence-in-Lotion absorbs instantly, leaving my skin feeling nourished and moisturized.”
