After I caught wind of TikTok users like Stephanie Hui showing off a sultry, seductive eye shadow technique called siren eyes right before my birthday weekend, I jumped on the proper opportunity to try it out for myself.
What are siren eyes? Well, it’s more of a vibe than an actual definition: the siren eye is comparable to the smoky eye everyone knows and love. But the entire “siren” things alludes to the previous’s sultry, feminine energy. It’s each mysterious and charming to take a look at.
While the name may be recent, celebrities like Bella Hadid and Alexa Demie have worn this search for years. But let’s address the elephant within the room: What makes siren eyes different than your typical winged liner smoky eye? “A smoky eye must have that ethereal, floaty look,” makeup artist Jenny Patinkin previously told Allure. “Heavy color application will make it appear to be soot, not smoke.”
Meanwhile, “Siren eyes are barely more dramatic, darker across the rims of the eyes, and flicked upwards on the outer corners for a more narrow, cat-eye shape,” says makeup artist Lilly Keys.
