Firms and Brands Donating to Moroccan Earthquake Relief –

A 6.8 earthquake struck Morocco on Friday, damaging villages within the High Atlas mountain region and the historic city of Marrakech. The death toll has climbed to almost 2,500. It’s the deadliest earthquake Morocco has seen in a long time. In 1960, a 5.8 earthquake devastated the country, leaving 12,000 dead and hundreds more homeless.

“I’m deeply saddened by the lack of life and devastation attributable to the earthquake in Morocco,” President Joe Biden wrote in a press release on Saturday. “We’re working expeditiously to make sure Americans in Morocco are protected, and stand ready to offer any essential assistance for the Moroccan people.”

As recovery efforts proceed, several corporations have pledged hundreds of dirhams to assist the country rebuild. Learn more about how brands are assisting earthquake relief efforts in Morocco.

The Jardin Majorelle Foundation

The Jardin Majorelle Foundation, which runs the Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech, has donated 1 million Moroccan dirhams, or $98,650, to a relief fund launched by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI.

“The Jardin Majorelle Foundation would really like to renew its condolences to all of the families in our country affected by this earthquake,” it said in a press release.

The organization has also organized a blood drive on the YSL Museum to profit its employees and their families, and helps employees affected by the earthquake, it said.

The Jardin Majorelle Foundation can also be calling for donations to King Mohammed VI’s fund, which could be made through the Bank Al-Maghrib.

Casablanca Paris

The posh clothing brand announced an upcoming limited run of the brand’s classic Maison T-shirt, with all proceeds going toward local non-governmental organizations including the Rif Tribes Foundation and the Moroccan Biodiversity and Livelihoods Association, which support indigenous tribes and rural communities within the Rif and High Atlas mountain regions.

“With many distant villages now reduced to rubble and an estimated 300,000 people impacted by this tragedy, Casablanca is committed to providing monetary support to 2 local NGOs on the bottom, Rif Tribes Foundation and The Moroccan Biodiversity and Livelihoods Association,” the corporate wrote in a press release. “Each organizations are providing vital and essential look after the victims of this devastating earthquake.”

Zyne

The sustainable shoe brand will donate to Amis Des Ecoles, a nonprofit promoting women’s empowerment and academic opportunities for kids in rural Morocco. Zyne’s footwear is designed and produced within the country.

Beiersdorf

The wonder and skincare conglomerate, which owns brands including Nivea, La Prairie and Chantecaille, has donated 500,000 euros, reminiscent of $537,000, to the German Red Cross, whose sister organization, the Moroccan Red Crescent, is providing aid following the earthquake.
