The Black Women-Owned Beauty Brands ESSENCE Editors Can’t Get
Harry Langdon/Getty Image Getting your Trinity Audio player ready… Women’s History Month comes directly after Black History Month, offering a two-month long opportunity to uplift and highlight the experience and accomplishments of Black women. In the beauty field, this means celebrating the far-reaching areas we continue to occupy across skin, body, hair care, makeup, and wellness. Through the black and white tutorial, where she does her makeup under the guise of not seeing color, Aina proves just how silly that sounds. The final result is a face of ill-matching foundation with terribly colourful brows and lids. While it’s easy to dismiss the tutorial as silly, it illustrates a vital point....

Is There Space for More Beauty Brands?
Maesa’s formula has blended the art of incubation and the science of co-creation for 25 years, creating brands including Kristin Ess Hair, Superb’ry, Ashley Tisdale’s Being Frenshe and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Beauty. But with more brands entering the market than ever in recent times, Piyush Jain, chief executive officer of Maesa, said he has a couple of key inquiries to ask of all potential brands before giving a green light, starting with if the brand and its products are even mandatory.   “We’ve seen an increasing number of brands with the entry barriers happening but at the identical time for beauty brands to succeed has turn out to be much harder,” said Jain in conversation with beauty market editor James Manso....
