I think the problem with 'reviving' something like Helmut Lang is that (like Yves Saint Laurent before him – and this is not to say I am comparing the two!!!) so many designers have adopted their ideas in the decades since, that it now seems similar to everything else. The magic of Helmut was that he always used a strong, classic, and one might say 'minimalistic' base (genius idea, BTW!) But he always TOOK IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Anyone remember those colourful lacquered 'candy wrapper' fabrics from 1994-ish? Nobody was doing that at the time, but everyone followed a year or so later. We all know that he works as an artist now, but he always applied that artist's eye to fashion, which made it so distinctive at the time… but it never strayed into really abstract 'conceptual' territory like it did with so many of his contemporaries, so it never lost any desirability or even 'wearability' along the way. But Peter is very talented and still very young, and it actually made sense that he just played around with the iconic Helmut Lang 'tropes' for the first effort… (Designing for a 'heritage' brand always seems to be about that now when someone new takes over. I've always called it the 'Karl Lagerfeld' effect, from when he did that at Chanel, starting in the early 80's.) But here's hoping he starts putting more of himself in future collections, and starts trusting his own compelling voice more, because I'd bet that dialogue will be interesting to see!

Being a #1 Helmut Lang fan…..I think it was a decent homage to him. I didn't get goosebumps but I have faith

Say what you want this is peak minimalism!!

I was there this morning and I must say it wasn’t bad at all and give him a chance; every creative director goes thru a trial showing their first collection for a brand that’s not theirs!!! No one is going to like everything but if you know the dna of the brand, it’s about minimalism

This show is a hot mess! Just invite Helmut back to design his own collections. There is only one Helmut, one Jil, one Calvin, one Halston. Very underwhelming…after this wait, and I love Peter Do's eponymous collection.
