Venus Williams shouldn’t be only top-of-the-line tennis players within the history of the sport, but she’s also a businesswoman and role model for young women and girls. Regardless of her massive achievements, there’s one thing she’s not: a feminist.
In a recent interview with Elle UK, Williams explained why she doesn’t discover with the F-word.
“I don’t like labels,” the tennis champ said. While she doesn’t like putting herself in a box, that doesn’t mean Williams isn’t down with empowering women.
“Though I do think as women we’ve got rather more power and opportunities in our hands than ever before. We truly don’t understand how powerful we’re. There’s nothing like a strong woman walking right into a room; her presence is like nothing else,” she said.
Within the tennis world, women have often needed to advocate for pay equity with their male peers. Williams, along along with her younger sister Serena, has been outspoken concerning the need for equitable prize amounts in the sport and she or he feels other women also needs to arise for themselves.
“There are at all times challenges that you may have to beat on a each day basis,” she said. “Unfortunately, people have the tendency to need to dominate each other, but fortunately, there are individuals who need to construct other women up. It’s as much as those individuals who need to construct to hopefully eliminate all that negativity.”
