Kilian to Open Store in Latest York

Kilian Hennessy has bottled up the Big Apple for his first freestanding store in Manhattan.

The 450-square-foot unit — slated to open in late November at 804 Washington Street within the Meatpacking District — will stock his brand’s recent scent: Apple Brandy by Kilian Latest York.

“It’s a little bit of a wink to the Big Apple and cognac,” said Hennessy, referring to his family’s historic business.

The boutique may have a glance much like the primary Kilian location, which opened last November in Moscow’s Crocus City Mall.

White partitions, armchairs, a couch, a coffee table and an area rug underscore “a living-room feel,” said Hennessy. “It’s warm but with very clean lines.

“[However,] I wanted every store to have a little bit of the sensation of the placement,” he added, explaining that within the Latest York shop, some brick will remain exposed.

While Hennessy wouldn’t discuss sales projections, industry sources estimate the shop could ring up $400,000 in its first 12 months.

Apple Brandy is the primary of a series of bespoke scents “inspired by the spirit, the essence of the town” where he opens a boutique, Hennessy said.

“We’re probably going to open in Seoul by the tip of the 12 months,” he explained, adding that in the primary quarter of 2014, shop openings are expected in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha in Qatar. “My goal is to open 10 [freestanding stores] in the subsequent three years.”

These will likely be in cities similar to Los Angeles, London and Paris.

“Ideally, I might love Dubai Duty Free,” he continued.

By Kilian today is sold in 200 doors worldwide, where Hennessy said it generally tops overall fragrance brands’ sales. And the business keeps growing. By the tip of August year-to-date, By Kilian’s revenues were up 72 percent.

On a geographic basis, 30 percent of the label’s sales are generated within the U.S., 30 percent in Europe (outside Russia), 20 percent in Russia and 15 percent within the Middle East.

By Kilian’s bestsellers are Good Girl Gone Bad; Forbidden Games; Flower of Immortality; Straight to Heaven, White Cristal, and Love, Don’t Be Shy.

Industry sources estimate By Kilian will generate $50 million in retail sales for 2013.

Other upcoming projects include e-commerce within the U.S., which can launch officially next Thursday.

On Oct. 1, By Kilian will introduce the scent Fidgeting with the Devil. Then, one month later, it’ll come out with the Shanghai 1920 limited edition, including a minaudière with one 50-ml. fragrance (of which there may be a alternative of 5) that retails in France for 195 euros, or $256 at current exchange.
