This Recent Sci-Fi Inspired Beauty Brand Is Winning Multiple

Simedar Jackson is motivated by helping others. Over the summer the esthetician launched her beauty brand, Of Other Worlds, to just do that. “I like hearing how much the product,” Light Beams, “has modified people’s skin,” she tells ESSENCE via Zoom. “And I like helping others achieve their skincare goals,” the Chicago-based skin guru adds.  Beyond aesthetics, Jackson was empowered to create her brand because she desires to “construct more equity for marginalized beauty consumers.” Moreover, Jackson desired to make clinically proven formulas feel and look more approachable—because of fun packaging and intergalactic product names. “I’m very inspired by sci-fi, Afrofuturism, and fantasy,” she says. Latest York to Award $4.5M in Grants for Garment

Latest York State is ready to award $4.5 million in grants to garment industry brands through its NY Forward program. On Thursday, Manhattan Borough president Mark Levine announced an open call for any organization or individual searching for funding for a capital project within the Garment District NY Forward-designated area, which is defined as between thirty fourth and forty second Streets between Fifth and Ninth Avenues. To be eligible, the projects must, amongst other things, contribute to the economic revitalization of the Garment District, by creating or retaining jobs, supporting area businesses, improving quality of life, activating public spaces, supporting affordability and achieving climate goals. Oscar Grant’s Mom And Wellness Experts Offer Suggestions On

For the primary time, ESSENCE Festival of Culture held spaces for Black men and boys, offering thought-provoking conversations about them. Wellness House drew several men to the “Joy Sanctuary” on Friday afternoon for a panel discussion on raising Black males, loving them and what it could be wish to grieve them. The moderator was radio personality Maria More, the host of the Wellness House conversations and a mother to sons. Panelists included Rev. Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant, who was shot and killed while unarmed in 2009 by a transportation officer in Oakland’s Fruitvale Station. Black Girl Magic Summit, Amazon and Capital One Join
