Women make up 14% of the data security industry, despite being 51% of the U.S. population. What’s more, the U.S. Labor Department reported that Black people only represent 3% of infosec analysts within the US.
These striking stats aren’t lost are a component of why TikTok launched their #SeeYourselfinCyber initiative, aimed toward narrowing the gap between BIPOC groups and access to lucrative jobs in cybersecurity.
In a blog post, they said that “with over 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs unfilled across the fast-growing cybersecurity sector, in accordance with Cybersecurity Ventures, TikTok is championing a latest #SeeYourselfinCyber initiative from the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA).”
Reportedly, the initiative will include creating pathways for HBCU students to be connected to cybersecurity jobs and a latest scholarship program through Cyversity.
