With prestige skin-care sales within the U.S. officially on the rebound — and growing faster than prestige makeup, in response to The NPD Group — Ulta Beauty is starting to broaden its reach within the category. The retailer lately has been known for a prestige-makeup-heavy brand assortment in its roughly 1,107 stores. On an organization earnings call in March, chief executive officer Mary Dillon announced the addition of Chanel makeup in a small variety of doors, and earlier in 2017 MAC Cosmetics entered 25 doors, with plans for 100 by 12 months’s end. P&G Acquires Tula Skincare – WWD
Procter & Gamble is betting big on prestige beauty. The patron goods giant is acquiring Tula Skincare — its third deal in two months and seemingly the biggest, as well. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed but Tula — a probiotic, superfoods-based skincare line founded by gastroenterologist Roshini Raj, Bobbi Brown cofounder Ken Landis and tech entrepreneur Dan Reich and backed by L Catterton — was reportedly heading in the right direction to succeed in about $150 million in net sales for 2021. That makes it almost twice the dimensions of Farmacy Beauty, which P&G bought in November, and thrice that of Ouai, the hair care brand it snapped up in December. Savannah Sachs, skincare brand Tula’s chief executive officer, is departing the corporate. Her resignation is effective Aug. 22, P&G Beauty confirmed. “It’s with mixed emotion that I’m sharing after five incredible years with Tula Skincare I’ve decided to maneuver on and find my next adventure,” Sachs wrote in a LinkedIn post Tuesday night. “I’ll be excited to observe Tula proceed to grow from afar and wish to thank Colin Walsh for helping out as Tula’s interim CEO as I wrap up my final weeks here and all of our Procter & Gamble partners for supporting me.” Walsh is the second head of P&G’s specialty beauty division. Tula Skincare and Magnolia Bakery Launch Banana Pudding-inspired Product
