Youth to the People, Dedcool Collaborate for Limited-edition Fragrance

Skincare brand Youth to the People and fragrance brand Dedcool have rather a lot in common.

Each corporations were born in Los Angeles, California, hold sustainability on the forefront of their ethos’ and have sought to constantly subvert the should-be’s of their respective categories for the higher.

So it was only natural when two years ago, the brands decided to team up for a fragrance that might mix their complementary identities, marking each brands’ first fragrance collaboration to this point.

Named Cosmic Release, the limited-edition, collaborative fragrance launches this Thursday on each brands’ web sites and retails for $100 for a 1.7-oz. bottle.

Mixing notes of violet, jasmine and rosemary with amyris, vetiver, cedar and patchouli, Cosmic Release is gender-neutral and seeks to embody the sensation of a “back-pat of trust from the universe,” in accordance with Youth to the People cofounder Greg Gonzalez and Dedcool founder and chief executive officer Carina Chaz.

“We desired to create a fragrance that might uplift the self, and offer you a moment to step into the current,” Gonzalez said. “There’s definitely a ritual aspect to each skincare and fragrance, but with fragrance, that [aspect] can really transport you somewhere.”

While the fragrance went through several iterations over the course of its development, its final form happens to be the primary version the brands codeveloped, which ultimately felt probably the most true to their shared purpose.

“We were potentially going to go together with one other version of it, but Greg was like, ‘No, my gut is telling me we’d like to maneuver forward with this one,’” Chaz recalled. “We share a whole lot of the identical consumers, so this fragrance is actually for our community — we desired to create something together that might touch them.”
