Jonathan Van Ness on Financial Wellness Through Partnership With

Jonathan Van Ness isn’t any stranger to wellness.

The “Queer Eye” star is understood for taking to social media to share their self-care routines, every part from ice skating and gymnastics to doing a face mask. Most recently, the stylist and founding father of JVN Hair is specializing in “financial wellness” through a partnership with Ness, a well-being-centric bank card that gives five times the points at “healthy merchants.”

Because the chief self-care officer at Ness, Van Ness is using their platform to coach about financial well-being and curate the cardboard’s future rewards partners, which include corporations like HigherDose and Sweetgreen — a private favorite for Van Ness when using the cardboard.

Below, Van Ness discusses their partnership with Ness, their tackle financial wellness and self care and what they’ve learned from their “Queer Eye” cohosts.

What has your road to financial wellness looked like?

Jonathan Van Ness: It has been a journey. I’ve at all times been one in all those individuals who spends now and thinks later. J.V.N.: Probably the most obvious connection there may be is that after we’re fearful or insecure about our funds, it makes us stressed. Once we’re stressed, you’re not feeling well. You’re not feeling healthy. It’s harder for me to need to work out. It’s harder for me to intend to make other good decisions if I do know that I’m stressed about money.

What does your role as chief self-care officer at Ness entail? 

J.V.N.: It’s about talking, taking the stigma out of talking about money and fascinated about ways in which we will make our money work harder for us and the way that pertains to our overall security and our wellness. What does your wellness routine seem like?

It’s the plain things like figure skating or going to gymnastics or having a private trainer. It’s also the less obvious things like gardening. That’s me connecting with my inner child. That’s me doing things that get me off my phone and so they get me more present. Just through gardening, I develop into so rather more grateful and present around food. Hanging out with my animals, that’s wellness for me. I also just got a table tennis table because I at all times grew up with one and I haven’t had one. That’s a joy filled thing. Therapy…I feel less joyful about therapy, but it surely’s that vital maintenance in your self care and in your mental health. It’s not as exciting as going to play table tennis or gardening, but vital nonetheless.

“Queer Eye” Season Seven was recently released on Netflix. After starring on the show for the past several years, what have your cohosts taught you about wellness? 

J.V.N.: I’ve learned literally so many things from all of the cohosts. One thing from Bobby [Berk] that I’ve learned is I used to probably not care if my lounge was form of messy or if my bedroom was form of messy, and he really taught me that if your own home is chaotic, it makes your mental health more chaotic. Once I actually began instituting that in my very own life, I used to be like, “oh my God, I actually was wired.” Tan [France] has taught me so much about fashion, but he’s also just taught me how one can be a gracious, nice, kind, amazing person. Antoni’s [Porowski] taught me a lot about patience and likewise has taught me numerous logistical food things. Karamo teaches me things on a regular basis. All of the boys teach me things on a regular basis.

Do you have got a wellness practice that you simply’d like everyone to adopt? 

J.V.N.: I’m at all times beating the drum of sunscreen.

What’s your advice for somebody seeking to achieve financial wellness? 

J.V.N.: Like anything, start slow. Things can feel really overwhelming while you’re entering into something and I definitely felt like that about saving for retirement, with my 401K and starting one. It may be overwhelming.
