Glossier Potential IPO, Merit Potential Sale Kick Off Makeup

Industry speculation that makeup can be 2024’s hottest M&A goal is quickly becoming a reality. The category, now years right into a post-pandemic rebound and still prestige beauty’s largest segment within the U.S., has seen a plethora of entrants — most of whom have grown each the general pie and their slices of it — exploring exit options. Industry sources told WWD that Glossier, roughly a 12 months after its Sephora debut, has hired Morgan Stanley to explore options, including an initial public offering. Sources also say they’re not alone — Merit Beauty has reportedly tapped Goldman Sachs because it looks at a possible sale. Glossier, Merit and Morgan Stanley declined to comment. Goldman Sachs didn't immediately reply to requests for comment. Products from Merit. Makeup...

Glossier Plans Williamsburg Store – WWD

Glossier is heading to Brooklyn. While the Emily Weiss-founded beauty business recently announced that's entering Sephora, it has not given up by itself stores and plans to open a location on the cross section of North sixth Street and Wythe Street in Williamsburg, WWD has learned. A Glossier representative confirmed plans for a Williamsburg store this fall, but declined to supply any more details. Along with a Brooklyn store, Glossier’s latest chief executive officer Kyle Leahy told staffers earlier this week that the flagship within the SoHo neighborhood would reopen in 2023, while other stores within the U.S. are also in motion. “I'm energized by the progress we're rapidly making against our omnichannel strategy: elevating our product road map, launching our partnership with Sephora...

Glossier CEO Emily Weiss Steps Down – WWD

Emily Weiss is stepping down as Glossier‘s chief executive officer. In line with a blog post Weiss penned on Glossier’s website, chief business officer Kyle Leahy will take the highest slot, effective immediately. Weiss will stay on as executive chairwoman. A spokesperson for the brand confirmed the shift, but declined to comment further. “I'll at all times be Glossier’s founder. But a CEO is the champion that an organization looks to, to steer it into tomorrow,” the post read. “From my remark, the best firms on the planet understand this distinction and be sure that the CEO seat is at all times stuffed with the appropriate person to take it where it must go for its brightest next chapter.” Glossier emerged as the primary...

Glossier made beauty cool… after which the vibe shift

Marisa Meltzer’s recent book about Emily Weiss’s billion-dollar beauty brand charts the culture-defining rise of Glossier. Here, Naomi Attwood gives you a glimpse into the exposé I remember the launch of the primary ever Glossier products in 2014. I used to be the wonder editor of ASOS Magazine on the time and happened to be in Recent York, so attended the pop-up with my co-workers. Once there, having shelled out the obligatory $80 for a set of 4 products, the sales assistant snapped my picture and, in a surreal moment, Emily Weiss stepped onto the shop floor and photobombed me. Despite having paid through the nose for branded Vaseline and a twig that...
